Leesburg State Prison, situated adjacent to the Leesburg State Farm and operated by the same administration, was open in 1970. From the time of its inception in the 1960s, the facility (designed by Kelly and Gruzen) was considered progressive by those interested in prison reform. In 1987, the prison and farm facilities were united under the collective name of Bayside State Prison. Researchers should also see the series Photograph Album of the Medium Security Facility, for similar material.
